The sergeant grew mangoes in the Bhavnagar orchard of Gujarat, dedicated to the service of Maharaja Krishna Kumar Singh. Under his stewardship, his subordinate, Jamadar Waliullah, developed a fondness for mangoes and, through experimentation and improvement, planted mango trees in the Mahua orchard of Bhavnagar. Compared to other varieties, these mangoes were juicier and sweeter. They were also favorites of the maharaj (King). It was the sergeant who procured these mangoes.
These mango trees were planted in Bhavnagar, and the fruits that came on them, namely mangoes, were given to the Maharaja for testing. He liked them very much; they were juicy, sweet, and had a distinct fragrance. The king liked this mango very much, and the soldier who was responsible for planting and improving it was one of his own soldiers in his service, holding the rank of Jamadar. So, the Maharaja decided to name this mango after his Jamadar, to forever commemorate him. These mangoes are found only in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, and Karnataka.
Considering the climate and soil fertility of Mahua in Bhavnagar and the quality of water, the Jamadar there found that it was a very suitable place for cultivation, based on his interest in farming. With his expertise, he realized that it was an ideal location for the same type of plantation. Utilizing his mastery, he planted mango trees here. Moreover, Bhavnagar was already renowned for its agricultural modernization, so the Jamadar planted some trees here, and agricultural production began in this area under his supervision.
